Marc’s Thought of the Day 11 January 2014 – Target

It was before Thanksgiving and it might have been before Halloween. I remember specifically the first Christmas commercial I saw this year was from Target. And I said to myself, “these bastards are opening on Thanksgiving” AND they push back the calendar used for Christmas advertising a bit farther.

I consciously said to myself, “I will no longer shop at Target”… At least last year… for ruining Thanksgiving for so many thousands of employees along with their families and for so many unsuspecting mis-guided shoppers and their families who for some imaginary fear of loss leave their family to camp out as if they were in the forest waiting for the door to open for a hand full of door-busters and everything else of mediocre value and not the lowest price of the year or ever. To be honest, the target is more appropriate at the gun range.

At this point, I think I spoke too loudly or my sphere of influence is a tad larger than I thought it was. I spoke ill of the company along with those who would cross the threshold into a demonic big box store that has always had a target on it’s back.

This attack and theft of credit card and/or other personally identifiable information as we are now being told which includes email address and more. This means that instead of just names and card numbers… we have pin #’s and cvv’s and other information which created complete identity theft. The impact is completely unknown at this point and now in the hands of banks, merchant processors and their payment gateways along with the card labels. The truth is we may never know the true impact of opening stores on Thanksgiving or if it has anything to do with the cyber-attack and theft of customer data.

This societal infraction by the board of director’s at Target has taken us one step closer to a permanent all year multi-holiday sale cycle including that fear of loss (again). Combine this with the permanent election cycle that never ends and news that is written and or fabricated to be fictional, entertaining and addictive while only “based” on fact. Every news outlet is responsible at some low level for this as they try to attract eye balls.

Is this payback? Do we have to wait until next Labor Day to see who is the first store to start a christmas ad campaign to see if this this type of theft is a social trend or attack or something bigger???

I should really get to the range and see if I can still hit the target with left hand (only), right hand (only), two handed left and two handed right… this is one big target. And you have to qualify by hitting the target by any means necessary.
